Fall is the favorite season of many, and the dropping temperatures remind us that it is approaching very soon. As September nears, this is a great time to figure out those last minute details for your reception tables at an Autumn wedding.
The air is beginning to chill in Autumn, and we excite in making our homes cozy and candlelit. A wedding reception envisioned with the same atmosphere of a warm home will be welcoming and memorable to your guests.
Gem tone candles surrounded by berries and pine cones are a beautiful detail on a table in Fall.
Placing a rustic lantern on each table adds to this season’s romantic atmosphere. I think the appeal of Fall lies mostly in October, a time when you have the mystery and danger of Halloween juxtaposed with the security of being with loved ones and building a warm fire. Actually, in my home town when I was a kid, there was a couple who had a Halloween themed wedding. They were in the newspaper. All the guests were requested to arrive in costume. The bride came down the aisle made up as a corpse, and her groom at the altar was dressed as a 19th century lord with fangs. What whimsical idea for a wedding! It must have been a lot of fun though, because the people in that town still talk about it today.
For buffet decorations, it is cute to have dried leaves strewn about the table, or colorful branches in vases. You could wrap a cake stand with a harvest wreath to add some color and dimension to the display.
Pumpkins are very popular in this season, but not everyone likes the idea of having orange as one of their wedding colors. One good idea that incorporates this lovable over-sized squash is serving roasted pumpkin seeds in little dishes on the tables. This will be a life saver to those guests who haven’t eaten all day and are counting the minutes until dinner.
Once you read which flowers are available in which season you can pick your favorites out of the list and start imagining creative designs.
A wide glass cylinder vase looks simple on its own, but as you can see from the picture above, it can be dressed up to the nines with flower petals, floating candles and underwater roses. Don’t forget to try setting it on a mirror top surface.
If you like the look and feel of silk flowers, the silk Amaryllis centerpiece offers an alternative to working with a florist or refrigerating a bulk order of flowers overnight.
The elegant Autumn table runner can be decorated with pine cones or acorns.
The formal damask design table cloth demonstrates with its intricate gold designs how incredible gold looks at a wedding reception. Fall is the perfect season for gold to be glistening in every corner. You could even paint your Autumn leaves gold, or purchase already painted ones from a craft store.
The more gold, the more the wedding reception will take on the spirit of a fairy ball. Alexander makes breathtaking crystal vases with brass frames. This trophy cup style is glorious.
The more slender Italian crystal vase has the delicate detail of a brittle autumn leaf in its design. The artistry on this vase is heavenly.
In many Fall wedding table mockups we see nuts and berries strewn about. One path to a beautiful Fall wedding is to make everything look very natural and earthy. If the tables are made of beautiful hard wood, why cover that up with table cloths? Wood can be very elegant. The upscale restaurants in the Chelsea Market use very simple long and thick wood tables.
Autumn lends itself to creating a romantic dinner ambiance with jewel tones, warm flames and bold gusts of wind blowing red and yellow leaves outside the window. It is a wonderful time of year to be married.
