Perhaps one of the most crucial decisions you will make in your kitchen with be the color of your countertop. As in all areas of design, color has the ability to transform the whole design of a space. A good idea would be to create a design board. Gather samples of your preferred tiles, paint colors, appliances and fixtures, flooring and a cabinet door sample. Also include any other permanent fixtures that would contribute to the over design layout. Then choose a counter top that blends in well with your surrounding color scheme.

Selecting colors of black and grey will give the kitchen a modern contemporary look. Blue and purple will appear exotic, while ivory, brown and shades of gold lend themselves to a variety of styles ranging from French Country to Old World. Depending on the hue green can be interpreted as formal or casual. Deep red and plum will give your kitchen a romantic and cozy feel. Remember that is resale is in your near future, its always wise to stick will a classic color such as Black Pearl when installing something as permanent as stone.
