The process of tumbling gives stone a rustic and time worn look and smoothes out the edges. Tumbled marble tile and mosaics can be employed in spaces where the old world feel is desired.

The two images below demonstrate the difference in color and overall appearance between polished and tumbled marble. In both designs the same black and white marble was used but in the design on the left the marble is tumbled while in the image on the right the marble is polished. Click on the pictures to view larger images and notice how in tumbled marble the black color appears to be muted compared to dark deep black of the polished marble. Also notice how the edges of individual pieces of tumbled marble are much smoother than the edges of polished marble pieces.
